FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between mixing and mastering?
Mixing is the process of taking the individual tracks of a song, adjusting the levels, adding effects, and creating the balance of each instrument and voice. Mastering is the final process when preparing a song for release. Think of it as the icing on the cake. A mastering engineer will take the stereo mix (as a single file) and give it the proper volume, compression, and equalization to compete with popular music released today
Is my mix good enough for mastering?
The best way to answer this is to listen to your mix on every set of speakers you can. Try iPod earbuds, car stereo, laptop speakers, etc. If you're happy with the way your mix sounds, than you're ready. While mastering will improve the sound of your mix, do not expect it to fix major problems. If you hear something you don't like, fix it before going to mastering!
How do I prepare my song for mastering?
We need a stereo bounce of each song you want to send. We cannot accept ProTools, Logic, Ableton or any other session files. Ideally, it would be a stereo wav or aiff file with a 44.1k sample rate and 24 bit depth. Higher sample rates are more than welcomed.
